Not every hardwood has the same density or overall hardness. You should use caution with softer hardwoods when you have heavy foot traffic or busy lifestyle. Cherry and Walnut are softer hardwoods that are softer and damage more easily. Species that are best for these lifestyles are Hickory, Hard Maple, Red Oak, or White Oak.
Protection
We recommend that all furniture should have felt pads, especially when moving furniture. If you have pets, it’s recommended to always make sure their nails are trimmed to avoid scratching to the finish.
Treatments
Going with a rustic look is a great option when you have pets or kids. The best treatments to achieve the rustic appearance are Skip Planed or Hand Distressed. These two treatments showcase a lot of character on each board and make damage less obvious if it should occur.
